On the Morning Bus
It's 7:24 and I am on the morning bus. Today is the first day of the Digital Humanities Summer Institute. For two weeks I will be at school from 9am to 4pm. And I can stay later if I want to participate in further events. I won't always be going up quite this early. Today is registration.
I think these two weeks will test my routines. When I have liberty as to how I run my day I can do them at any time. But now a large block of my day is scheduled.
Today is the first day of the Digital Humanities Summer Institute. It is the first time since I started constructing routines that I do not have control of a significant part of my day. What good shall I do today? Today I will make strangers feel welcome on my campus.
I have already run into one challenge when I found that I did not have time for my martial arts practice this morning. I was proud of myself for wanting to do it. I woke an hour earlier then usual and I left the house just after 7am. I love mornings but usually I don't leave the house until 9 or 10am.
There simply was not time to do a normal morning. The goal is to construct algorithms so that when I do martial arts I know what to do. Here is what my martial arts practice looks like.
DAILY PRACTICE Algorithm
0. What is the right time to practice?
1. YOGA
2. Start "EXERCISES" Algorithm.
3. Start "FORMS" algorithm
4. Start "DAILY WRITING" algorithm
EXERCISES
0. What am I doing? How many?
1. Sit ups.
2. Push ups.
3. Crunches.
4. Easy weights
FORMS
0. When should I do this? How will I place it?
1. Practice Stances.
2. Practice hands
3. Practice 8 point.
4. Meditate
DAILY WRITING
0. What shall I write? Why does it matter?
1. Write.
2. Preview
3. Edit.
4. Post
I do not wish to miss a day but sometimes it is necessary. But I'm just not convinced of that. I think I will go find a quiet place to do yoga now that I have checked in at registration.
Today I could not do my martial arts practice at home like usual because I had to get up to the University for 7:45am.
Instead I did it at Uvic in the morning sunshine and meditated listening to birds. I could erase my doubts and simply write a post called "meditating to birdsong" but instead I'm going to leave the doubt in. There was time in the end. Time to practice and time to write. And I'm so happy that I've developed a habit of doing it so that I want to when I am unable.
