No house work, no school work
In Episode 131 of the Slob Comes Clean Podcast, Allowing time for Rest. Dana K White talks about the importance of rest, and how getting her daily routine under control helped her have time for proper rest.
My daily routine is under control. At least the work half of it. But now I have trouble sitting down. I have trouble stopping. It is never perfect. I can sweep the floor five times a day but it is never perfect. I've made a rule that sweeping only happens after a meal, before mopping, or when guests are on their way. It's helping. I'm also reassuring myself that there is a time set aside for tasks and I don't need to do them right when I see them.
So I've made rest time as a routine. I even set a timer and tell myself 'you will sit and take a break for 20 minutes, and no work will happen during that time.' The first morning I did that I drank my tea and read my book, and then suddenly I felt inspiration. I decided to write. That's when I changed the name of this blog to "Messy Brain Dysfunction."
Today is Saturday. It's date day with Wife. It's a half days rest. No house work, no school work. We can make a simple lunch and bike and snuggle and watch a movie.
I have a take home exam due next Wednesday. I'm starting an intense course on Monday. I struggle to take this time. And that is why it matters. When I schedule something for a certain time it means that block of time is protected from outside intrusion. If it is school work I protect it from housework. If it is rest I protect it from any kind of work.
